What is the Voice Response System (VRS)?

The VRS is an automated system that asks questions and allows you to enter responses. You can use the VRS to file your weekly claims.

Can I still receive benefits if I quit my job or was fired?

If you or your employer reports that your separation from employment was due to quitting, resigning, or being fired, you and your employer will be

All claimants are required to be able to and available for work to be eligible for benefits.

You must report your return to work when you file your weekly request for payment of benefits for the week in which you returned to work.

What if I receive a pension, retirement, social security, etc.

Social Security benefits will not reduce your unemployment insurance benefits.

What if I work in Virginia but live outside Virginia? Am I required to come to Virginia to register with the VEC?

No. You are required to register for job services with the workforce registration process for the state you live in.
