Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

RESEA Program

What is RESEA?

The Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) Program is a federally funded initiative designed to help Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimants return to work faster. In Virginia, RESEA is administered by the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) and delivered by Virginia Works through trained Reemployment Specialists.

If you’ve been selected to participate, you’re being offered early, personalized support to help you:

  • Find a job that matches your skills and goals
  • Explore training, apprenticeships, or certification programs
  • Stay on track with your UI eligibility requirements

RESEA is mandatory for selected claimants and serves as a gateway to Virginia’s full workforce system.

What to Expect from RESEA

Once selected, you’ll be scheduled for a mandatory one-on-one appointment with a Reemployment Specialist at your local Virginia Works Career Center. During this session, you will:

  • Review your UI eligibility and job search activities
  • Receive local labor market information
  • Develop or update your resume
  • Create a customized Individual Reemployment Plan
  • Be referred to job openings, training programs, or supportive services

This appointment is your opportunity to receive expert guidance and take meaningful steps toward employment.

Your Responsibilities

To remain eligible for UI benefits, you are required to:

  • Complete the online RESEA orientation (link provided in your appointment notice)
  • Attend all scheduled RESEA appointments
  • Complete any assigned activities (e.g., workshops, job applications)
  • Actively search for work and maintain UI eligibility

Important: Failure to participate without good cause may result in a delay or denial of your unemployment benefits.
