Title 60.2 Unemployment Compensation
The Virginia Unemployment Compensation Act establishes the Unemployment Compensation Fund in the state treasury, financed primarily through taxes paid by most employers based on their taxable wages (§ 60.2-300). The fund provides unemployment insurance benefits to eligible individuals who are unemployed through no fault of their own and have recent earnings from insured employment (§ 60.2-612). The Act defines benefit eligibility, employer responsibilities, and procedures for claims, appeals, and enforcement. The Virginia Employment Commission (VEC), as authorized under § 60.2-108, administers the program by collecting taxes, determining eligibility, managing the fund, ensuring compliance, and overseeing appeals.
