Emergency Unemployment Compensation

Emergency Unemployment Compensation:

Provides up to 20 weeks of temporary emergency unemployment compensation benefits

Who is potentially eligible to receive the new EUC benefits?

Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) is payable to individuals who (1) have exhausted all rights to regular compensation with respect to a benefit year that ended on or after May 1, 2007; and (2) have no rights to regular unemployment compensation (UI) or extended benefits (EB); and (3) are not receiving compensation under the unemployment compensation law of Canada. EUC benefits will not apply to benefit years that ended before May 1, 2007.

The VEC has mailed out over 18,000 EUC Tier II applications on June 23 and June 24, 2009.  So far we have received over 10,000 applications back from our customers.  It could take up to five weeks before the VEC is able to get all of these applications processed. The VEC is not able to tell individuals if their application has been received due to the sheer volume.  We are asking our customers to wait at least three weeks, after they submit their application, before they contact the VEC.
