Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) under the CARES Act

The CARES Act included a provision that allowed for a temporary emergency increase in unemployment insurance (UI) benefits, pandemic emergency unemployment compensation (PEUC) as well as pandemic unemployment assistance (PUA) benefits. This emergency provision is the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) program. Eligible claimants received $600 per week in addition to the regular weekly benefit amount they received.

*** Please be advised that the last payable week of FPUC ($600) occurred with the benefit week ending July 25, 2020.

You should continue to file your weekly claim for benefits under the UI, PEUC or PUA program as you have done in previous weeks, as long as you remain unemployed and have a remaining benefit balance with the VEC.

There is the possibility of additional legislation that would affect the FPUC program. If that occurs the Virginia Employment Commission will communicate that information to the public. This information would also be posted to our web site at www.vec.virginia.gov
